Steven Gerrard and his wife Alex Curran touched down as Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday to a classic SoCal celebrity reception as the LA Galaxy's newest star prepares to make his MLS debut next month.

Paparazzi and fans greeted the Liverpool FC icon as the couple made their way through the terminal, with Gerrard set to begin training with the Galaxy, just the second club of his illustrious career, ahead of the opening of the summer international transfer window on July 8.

The 34-year-old midfielder will occupy LA's third Designated Player slot alongside Robbie Keane and Omar Gonzalez, and is expected to slot in alongside the likes of Juninho, Baggio Husidic, Mika Vayrynen and rookie Ignacio Maganto in the Galaxy engine room.

The Galaxy are expected to release further details this week about the timing of Gerrard's first practice and first match appearance.

LA's first game after the opening of the transfer window falls on Saturday, July 11, an International Champions Cup match against Mexico's Club América. Their first league match takes place the following Friday, another California Clasico against the San Jose Earthquakes. Both are home matches.

The Galaxy, who suffered a painful 3-1 comeback loss to the Quakes at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, currently sit in third place in the Western Conference standings with a 7-6-7 record.
