CHICAGO - The Chicago Fire today selected five players in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft, which was held via conference call earlier this afternoon. All players who were eligible and not selected in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft - which was held on Friday, Jan. 20 - and additional players nominated by teams were eligible for selection in today's MLS Supplemental Draft.

With its lone first round selection, the Fire chose UNC-Charlotte midfielder Floyd Franks with the 10th overall selection. Chicago followed by acquiring depth for its backline by choosing Dayton defender Dasan Robinson (2nd Round, 22nd overall), Syracuse defender Ezra Prendergast (3rd Round, 34th overall) and Howard defender Idris Ughiovhe (4th Round, 42nd overall) with its next three selections. The Fire ended its draft by taking Western Kentucky forward Richard Mupfudze.

"We had identified several players heading into today's draft that we were hoping to choose, and we got five of the guys that were very high on our list," said Fire Head Coach Dave Sarachan. "We feel there are still a lot of quality players in these rounds of the draft, so we did our homework. Overall, I think the Supplemental Draft, along with the SuperDraft last week, have yielded some very good prospects for our club."

The five newest members of the "Men in Red" are expected to join the rest of the Fire roster by Saturday, Feb. 4, when the squad kicks off its 2006 preseason with a two-week training camp at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. All players who were eligible and not selected in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft - which was held on Friday, Jan. 20 - and additional players nominated by teams were eligible for selection in today's MLS Supplemental Draft.
