Fabian Espindola leads the way in MLS Fantasy soccer Round 5

Fabian Espindola - DC United - kicking

Round five's Dream Team is playing Route 1-style soccer, with a 5-2-3 formation built around players from the Montreal Impact and D.C. United.

D.C. demonstrated some good ideas against the Vancouver Whitecaps en route to a 4-0 victory, and Fabian Espindola tied for the round’s best score with a 14-point performance. His brace was matched by teammate Alvaro Saborio (in just 12 minutes of play), but Espindola racked up a handful of bonus points. They were joined by defender Taylor Kemp, who added four bonus points to his clean sheet bonus.

Montreal were also clean sheet winners over the Columbus Crew. Defenders Victor Cabrera and Hassoun Camara were good for double digit point totals, Cabrera with a bevy of bonus points and Camara with a goal. Midfielder Kyle Bekker was the only single digit player to make the Dream Team for this round. That shows just how bypassed the midfield was this weekend, with New England’s Kelyn Rowe the only one to manage double digit fantasy points.

Sporting Kansas City’s goalkeeper Tim Melia also made the Dream Team and was co-best round score with Espindola, but he was the only SKC player to show up in fantasy.

Top fantasy owner:

Jake Owens and his team Purdue FC were the round winners. In a matchweek where the average score was 51, Jake’s team managed a 99 with consistency. Not one of his players were on this week’s Dream Team, but he captained Sebastian Giovinco and his lowest scorer was a 7. Great job and enjoy your prize!

Fill my eyes with that double vision…

Our second double match round is upon us, and it’s a doozy. This carries with a couple things that MLS Fantasy owners need to know:

●    The transfer deadline is April 13th at 8:30 pm ET
●    Six teams are playing two matches this round: Colorado, FC Dallas, New York, Portland, San Jose, and SKC.
●    Portland is the only team to play both of their games at home.
●    New York is the only team to play both of their games on the road.
●    Keep a close eye on the injury report

So who am I looking at to carry me through the next round? Melia is worth the price of admission. I’m nervous about Portland having to make adjustments due to Sunday’s injury to Darlington Nagbe on such a short turnaround. I’m looking at SJ’s Quincy Amarikwa and SKC’s Amadou Dia to do some big things this round.

How did you do this past round? How are you preparing for the big week ahead? Let us know!
