SAN JOSE, Calif. --
The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the team will play two preseason games at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara. The Quakes will face the Colorado Rapids on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 pm PT, and will play the USL First Division Portland Timbers on Saturday, March 14 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
Season ticket holders can attend these matches free of charge; they may also pick up their Darren Huckerby bobble head at either of these two games. Tickets go on sale for both matches on Monday, Feb. 9 at 10:00 a.m. PT and can be purchased by calling 1-800-225-2277 or online at sjearthquakes.com. All tickets are general admission and the ticket price for non-season ticket holders is $10.
The Quakes played the Rapids twice in 2008, defeating them 2-0 on April 19 for their first win of 2008. San Jose faced the Rapids again on July 12 at Buck Shaw Stadium and tied them 1-1.
The Earthquakes have faced the Timbers four times in franchise history and lead the overall series 3-1. In their last meeting on March 28, 2008 the Earthquakes came away with a 2-1 victory. Kei Kamara scored an early goal for the Quakes and they held on for the win as Shea Salinas added the second goal for the Quakes. On August 3, 2005, in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 16, San Jose shut out Portland 2-0 with goals scored by Wade Barrett and Brian Mullan. The previous year, on July 14, the Earthquakes defeated the Timbers 3-0 in the Open Cup with goals scored by Ramiro Corrales, Ronnie Ekelund and Dwayne De Rosario. Their first meeting was on June 4, 2001, in an exhibition match where Portland snuck by San Jose for a 2-1 win.
