The Houston Dynamo and KBME 790 AM have renewed their broadcast partnership to include the 2009 season, it was announced today.
790 AM The Sports Animal, part of Clear Channel Houston, will air Dynamo games during the 2009 regular season. The team's collaboration with KBME also includes airing of Dynamo All-Access with Glenn Davis on Mondays from 7-9 p.m. 790 AM's fist game broadcast will be tonight, as the Dynamo take on Mexico's Atlante FC in a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal match. Kickoff is slated for 9:00 p.m. CT.
"We are proud to call 790 The Sports Animal our home for English radio," Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. "790 is a major player in the Houston sports scene, and our association is another indicator of the Dynamo's relevance in the marketplace."
Calling the action during games will be the team's new play-by-play voice, Jonathan Yardley. A native of Morristown, N.J., Yardley began his broadcasting career at Rice University in Houston, where he called Rice baseball for four years, including the 2003 national championship season, and called Rice soccer home games on television. After two years as a minor league baseball broadcaster and time as a Houston-area journalist, Yardley joined the Dynamo in 2008 and called Dynamo Reserves home games for HoustonDynamo.com last season.
"We're proud to be the very first radio partner of the Houston Dynamo. 790 The Sports Animal is committed to growing the sport of soccer in Houston, and this partnership with the Dynamo is a natural extension of that commitment," said Bob Merrill, General Sales Manager of 790 The Sports Animal.
The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and represented the United States in three consecutive regional championships. The team's 2009 season opens with CONCACAF Champions League play on Tuesday, February 24 at 9:00 p.m. For more information, please log on to www.HoustonDynamo.com or call (713) 276-7500.
