Did a Kevin Spacey pep talk lead to DC United's win vs. New England Revolution? | SIDELINE

Hey, remember that time last month when D.C. United got this sweet photo opp with Frank Underwood—ooooops, we mean Kevin Spacey?

The occasion? A gala for Spacey’s namesake foundation, which “aims to train, support, and mentor emerging artists in the performing arts and film.”

But apparently the love affair lasted beyond this photo–in fact, D.C. United has appeared to have picked up a quasi-diehard celeb fan.

Behold this tweet from Thursday, in which Spacey congratulated the team on their victory over the New England Revolution in this week’s Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs Knockout Round.

Let’s break down why this rules really quickly:

  1. It’s great how he just addresses head coach Ben Olsen just as “Ben” in this tweet, like they picked up in the middle of an actual conversation, and everyone should know who “Ben” is.
  2. Okay, so apparently Spacey gave the team a pep talk?
  3. He really doesn’t even tweet that often, only hitting send nine times in the last month. Three of those tweets – a full third! – have been about United, with Spacey sending messages to/about the team on Oct. 8 and in that original note on Sept. 29.

There you have it: a legitimate co-sign from Underwood—errr, Spacey. D.C. United, don’t let him down.
