As players enjoy the offseason, here at cdchivasusa.com, we'll be catching up with the players and finding out their plans ahead of the 2009 MLS season. Today we hear from Carey Talley.
Any plans for the Holidays?
For me, it's just to spend time with family. We put a lot into our career and give a lot up because we don't have time over the summer to go and do things with the family, so it's just to spend time with the kids and my wife and trying to be around them as much as possible. They give up a lot just so we can keep doing what we do. Family is everything to me, and this offseason, that's all it's going to be.
How do you view the 2008 season?
I thought it was a tough season for us. Being in four competitions and not coming out with any trophies, I don't think our season was quite as successful as what we envisioned. Next year, it's time for a re-evaluation of our goals and what we're going to concentrate on, and I think we're going to be better. Also, in saying that, we got a lot of valuable experience for some younger guys who probably weren't going to play as much, but with all the competitions and injuries, got quite a bit of valuable time. Going forward I think that's pretty good.
How about for you personally?
It was a little bit up and down. I was struggling with an injury when I came in to Chivas USA, and of course I got a concussion. I think that when I was on the field, I did help the team. I really don't see my season as being successful because the team wasn't that successful. If we go in and win and do all that I would consider myself to have a pretty good season, but I can just say it was an alright season for me, and I wish we could've done better as a team.
What was your highlight?
I enjoyed playing in both Chivas USA/Galaxy games, and in both instances I think our fans were outstanding. When we played the away game to the Galaxy, I thought our fans we amazing. That one section that was allotted to our fans was louder than the rest of the stadium combined, so that was a special moment, just to come out in play in a game that is probably the biggest game in the league, and with the best atmosphere.
