Astronaut to attend Dynamo game

Houstonians have responded in a big way to the Dynamo effort to aid Virginia Tech University. Between proceeds from special ticket sales and the online auction of the team's commemorative jerseys, the charitable total to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund already exceeds $10,000.

"We would like to show our appreciation to all those who have contributed with our cause," said Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti. "This is a great way of showing that Houston fans are not only passionate about soccer, but also kind and full of solidarity toward those affected by the tragedy."

The game-worn jerseys will be presented to their respective highest bidders after the game, making them unique sports collectibles, as the Dynamo will wear them for the first and only time during this Sunday's game against the Chicago Fire.

Virginia Tech soccer coach Oliver Weiss will attend Sunday's game and will be part of a pregame honor ceremony.

Also attending Sunday's game will be NASA Astronaut Joan Higginbotham. Ms. Higginbotham will present the team with a Houston Dynamo scarf which she flew into space last December.
