AMSTERDAM — Three Americans took to Friday night lights in Germany, with Paderborn forward Matt Taylor hopping off the bench to rescue a 2-2 home draw with Dynamo Dresden.
The former Chivas USA and Kansas City man, an 80th-minute sub, applied the fatal touch to a flick across the goalmouth to beat the whistle. It was Taylor's second strike of the season, both late equalizers.
Hot in pursuit of their first-ever elevator to the top division, fifth-place Paderborn are within two points of 2.Bundesliga leaders St. Pauli.
Up in the Bundesliga they aspire to reach, Fabian Johnson and Daniel Williams worked decent if unspectacular shifts in Hoffenheim's 1-1 share with visiting Mainz 05.
Johnson filled in at left back for 72 minutes while club- and country-mate Williams went the full route in midfield. Hoffenheim are now winless in their last six league games and have also drawn six straight Bundesliga home contests.
