AMSTERDAM — Birmingham City's Jonathan Spector became the eighth American into the FA Cup fourth round on Wednesday night, working a strong shift at right back in a 1-0 replay victory at local rivals Wolverhampton.
The US handyman flirted with an icebreaker on the stroke of halftime, his drive from just outside the area flashing wide of the far post. The visitors eventually grabbed the game's only goal when Wade Elliot deposited his own rebound off the woodwork in the 74th minute.
The Brums, twice runners-up but never FA Cup champs, will visit Sheffield United on Jan. 28 with a place in the sweet 16 up for grabs.
