AMSTERDAM — Leeds United's American forward, Mike Grella, has been sent out on loan to League One promotion-hunters Carlisle United for one month.
The Cumbrians, who start fellow American Frank Simek at right back, could eventually decide to extend the 23-year-old New York native's stay.
"Obviously, we'll look at how he plays and take it from there," Carlisle press officer Andy Hall told MLSsoccer.com.
The Brunton Park crew are currently second in the table, yet have tallied a mere 14 goals in 11 games.
"We've been scoring in fits and starts; we'll get four in one game and go a couple without," stated Hall. "It's been frustrating."
The Blue Army are expecting Grella, who has often worked from the left side with Leeds, to compete for one of the forward spots in their 4-4-2 diamond set-up.
"We know all about him," assured Hall. "If he's in decent form, he should score some goals."
In his third season with Leeds, Grella has made just one appearance in the Championship this term. Before the Whites were promoted this year, he had one goal in 29 League One games and added four more in cup play.
Grella will shoot for his debut when Carlisle visit Exeter City on Saturday.
