American Exports: Boyd, Bradley star in wild ones

Terrence Boyd with Rapid Vienna

AMSTERDAM – Terrence Boyd bagged his 10th Austrian Bundesliga goal of the season and later notched an "MLS assist" on the stoppage-time equalizer as 10-man Rapid Vienna rallied three times for a 3-3 Sunday draw at Red Bull Salzburg.

After narrowly missing wide on a rebound at the quarter-hour mark, the US forward hit for the third time in his last four road games to cancel the Red Bulls' early opener just after the break. A cross was looped over from the left side and Boyd made no mistake with a firm header.

The youngster also fed the set-up man on the late Marcel Sabitzer equalizer that allowed the Green-Whites to stay within three points of Austria's second Champions League invite, currently held by Sunday's opponents.

Over in Serie A, Michael Bradley capped a solid shift of dirty work by assisting on AS Roma's 3-2 snow-covered winner at Atalanta.

Nineteen minutes from time, the US midfielder's inch-perfect lobbed feed allowed the overlapping Vassilis Torosidis to bury a terrific sharp-angle header. Having posted back-to-back league wins for the first time since early December, eighth-place Roma moved back to within four points of Italy's third and final Champions league slot.

The weather was similar but the result different for AZ Alkmaar top gun Jozy Altidore, who suffered an afternoon of lackluster service in their disappointing 1-0 home loss to NAC Breda.

The striker's best chance came on a "do-it-yourselfer" in the 77th minute; after bulling his way into the area past two defenders, Altidore's shot took a small NAC deflection to run inches wide of the far post.

With just one win in their last nine home games, AZ slipped two rungs to 13th.

Next door in Belgium, Sacha Kljestan enjoyed a decent 78-minute outing in Anderlecht's 2-2 rally draw away to rivals Club Brugge.

The former Chivas USA man twice sent teammates in alone with through passes during his shift, only to watch one created shot strike the woodwork and the other fired wide. By striking last just after Kljestan's removal, the defending champs and current leaders ran their Jupiler League unbeaten streak to 15 games.
