Strength: Luciano Acosta was worth the money last season. Just a workhorse of a No. 10 who was a total gamer even as the season and team fell apart around him.
Weakness: It’s hard to move past three years of failure in one offseason.

Joe Gyau: A regular with Cincinnati in the last two-and-a-half years, Joe Gyau saw his option declined as a new regime looked to finesse some room to maneuver. Ray Gaddis and Alvas Powell are the two senior-most options at right back.
Kamohelo Mokotjo: Not a key departure in terms of replacing minutes or performances, but Kamohelo Mokotjo was on a big contract and Cincy used their lone offseason buyout to get him off the books. The former South Africa international has since gone on trial with FC Twente back in the Netherlands but is yet to be officially signed.

Alec Kann: A point of weakness for FC Cincinnati since they played their inaugural MLS match was at goalkeeper. Alec Kann, recognized around the league as being among the most talented backups while in Atlanta, should have an extended chance to start in Cincy. Even if he’s average, it’s a big upgrade.
Raymon Gaddis: Out of retirement, the Philadelphia Union legend rejoins former coach Pat Noonan and GM Chris Albright from the Union. He should play a bunch of minutes, but perhaps more important than anything else, he’ll help reset the club’s culture. Gaddis has as sterling a reputation as anyone in the league.
