2021 Africa Cup of Nations postponed — see which MLS players are affected

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday that it has postponed or cancelled several of its upcoming tournaments, including the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon, affecting several MLS players who were potentially poised to take part in the competition.


The AFCON, Africa's most important international competition, has been rescheduled from January 2021 to January 2022, with the date of the final tournament and remaining qualifiers to be determined. MLS players potentially set to feature for their countries include Columbus Crew SC defenders Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah (Ghana), Montreal Impact midfielder Saphir Taider (Algeria), Chicago Fire FC midfielder Micheal Azira (Uganda) and Minnesota United defender Romain Metanire (Madagascar).
