USMNT star Weston McKennie debuts for Juventus in starting XI for season-opener vs. Sampdoria

Weston McKennie - September 20, 2020

When Weston McKennie’s big move to Italian giants Juventus was announced, the big question for the US men’s national team midfielder was would he see enough playing time?

Well, Juve open their Serie A campaign Sunday against Sampdoria and McKennie was in new coach Andrea Pirlo’s first starting XI. Wearing No. 14, McKennie lined up next to Adrien Rabiot in central midfield in a 5-4-1 formation — moving to right wingback in the 78th minute. He wound up playing all 90 minutes as Juventus cruised to a 3-0 victory, with McKennie's new superstar teammate Cristiano Ronaldo adding the final goal in the 88th minute.

The 22-year-old former FC Dallas academy standout is the first USMNT player to compete for the global powerhouse.
