US men’s national team midfielder Weston McKennie reportedly is on the verge of a shock move to Italian champions Juventus.

The deal, according to reporter Fabrizio Romano, would be a €3M loan from Schalke with an €18M option to buy for the 21-year-old, who has been a regular for club and country. The potential deal has also been reported by German outlet Kicker.

The reported move to the Serie A powerhouse follows other strong speculation linking him with a transfer to Premier League club Southampton as well as staying in Germany with Hertha Berlin. McKennie, who made 26 starts in 32 appearances this past season for Schalke, has said he wanted to make a move to the Premier League.

Schalke finished a disappointing 12th in the German Bundesliga last season and apparently are keen to decrease their expenses after a second straight year of missing out on European qualification.
