2014 New England Revolution Eastern Conference Champion side reunited on Zoom call

New England Revolution Zoom call - 2014 players - April 2020

Former New England Revolution star Charlie Davies gave fans a blast from the past, assembling a star-studded group of his former teammates from the 2014 Revs squad that made it to the MLS Cup final for a Zoom call reunion.

Davies was joined by Kevin Alston, Andrew Farrell, Andy Dorman, Diego Fagundez, Teal Bunbury, Jermaine Jones, Darrius Barnes, Shalrie Joseph, Steve Neumann and Patrick Mullins on the call, which was rife with nostalgia regarding a season that saw the Revs come tantalizingly close to an MLS Cup championship before they fell 2-1 in the final to the LA Galaxy.

They may have come up just short, but the journey there was an epic one, as the Revs embarked on a blistering run of form after the arrival of Jones in the summer. They battled their way through the Eastern Conference playoffs, and topped a potent New York Red Bulls side by a 4-3 aggregate scoreline to win the Conference Championship.

"I would say that in general, the whole team, the whole atmosphere of the team, I think we all can preach it, it felt like a brotherhood," Jones said. "We all bonded, we had success on the field, of course, but we had the whole package. Going out, watching football games on Sundays, I think it was an amazing time."

Added Barnes: "It was like two seasons in one. We started off decently, and then I think it was like a 15-game winless streak or something like that, and then how we turned it around and hit our stride toward the end of the season to make a run to MLS Cup was something special. We had a real family atmosphere, you could really see it on and off the pitch. Win together, lose together, go out together, it was just a fun group of guys to be around."

It all served as an ideal prelude for NBC Sports Boston's rebroadcast of that legendary second leg against RBNY. A full schedule of the upcoming classic Revs matches that will re-air locally can be found here.
