Chicago Fire FC have acquired Serbian attacking midfielder Luka Stojanovic from Serbian Superliga club FK Čukarički for an undisclosed fee, the club announced Thursday.

Stojanovic, 26, was FK Cukaricki's leading goal-scorer this season at the time of his departure, with nine goals for the fourth-place team in Serbia's top flight. He had 23 goals and 11 assists in 74 appearances with the club.

“Luka is a highly intelligent player with experience from competitive leagues in Europe,” said Chicago Fire FC head coach Raphael Wicky. “In addition, he is a very versatile player who can create and score goals for the team. We are very excited to have Luka on our roster going into the 2020 season.”

Prior to FK Cukaricki, Stojanovic featured for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus and Royal Excel Mouscron in Belgium. He is a product of the storied youth setup at Sporting CP, though never made his debut for the first team.

The attacking midfielder featured heavily for Serbian youth national teams, including 28 appearances with the U-17 side.

Stojanovic is Chicago's latest addition in their transitional offseason, after signing Argentinian winger Ignacio Aliseda as a young Designated Player this week. They also have signed forward Robert Beric as a DP as well as Alvaro Medran, Miguel Angel Navarro and others this winter.
