Ex-Minnesota United 'keeper Vito Mannone loaned to Denmark's Esbjerg fB

Vito Mannone - Minnesota United - makes save

Vito Mannone turned down a reported offer from Minnesota United FC that would have made him the highest paid goalkeeper in Major League Soccer.

After a season on loan from Reading that saw him win MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors and help lead the Loons to the MLS Cup Playoffs, the 31-year-old Italian saw his loan expire and tested the international waters.

He made no secret of his desire to play in Serie A in native Italy, but instead joins Esbjerg fB, currently second fro the bottom in Denmarkā€™s Superliga, a six-month loan announced Friday.

After Minnesota Unitedā€™s overtures were turned down, the club moved on and, after a brief flirtation with signing former England International Joe Hart, landed Tyler Miller, whose contract was not picked up by LAFC after the 2019 season.
