Minnesota United vs. Real Salt Lake | 2019 MLS Match Preview

2019 MLS Regular Season Week 28
Minnesota United FC vs. Real Salt Lake
Allianz Field – St. Paul
September 15 – 5:30 PM ET

With one point and two spots separating them, Minnesota United host Real Salt Lake in a pivotal clash with massive playoff implications Sunday at Allianz Field.

The fourth-place Loons (13-10-6) look to rebound from a midweek 2-0 defeat to the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium. Mauro Manotas and former Minnesota United fan favorite Christian Ramirez scored seven minutes apart late in the first half. Ethan Finlay had a late consolation goal waved off when it was ruled following Video Review that Angelo Rodriguez was offside when obstructing Joe Willis' view.

Real Salt Lake (14-11-4) moved into second place in the West with an emotional 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Brooks Lennon served up a tasty cross that Damir Kreilach headed past Daniel Vega for the lone goal in the 75th minute to secure the Claret-and-Cobalt's 11th home win of the season.

This is the second meeting this season, with the Loons and RSL sharing the points in a 1-1 draw at RioT July 20. Marcelo Silva canceled out Darwin Quintero's opening strike with the 70th-minute equalizer, hitting a beautiful scissor kick from a cross by Jefferson Savarino. Jan Gregus nearly leveled late, but his shot clanged off the post.
