Sporting KC, NYCFC players get in shoving matches...with teammates

THUMB ONLY - Benny Feilhaber arguing with Matt Besler

It's pretty common for players on opposing teams to push and shove each other from time to time. And it's certainly not unheard of for teammates to get fired up and yell at each other while they're playing a game.

But we saw a rather unusual sight on Friday during the MLS regular season match between NYCFC and Sporting KC, when teammates shoved each other on two separate occasions.

The first came late in the first half, when NYCFC got a free header off a set piece. Sporting players started shoving each other in their box, followed by a demonstrative argument between Sporting players Benny Feilhaber and Matt Besler moments later.

Again, not in itself out of the ordinary. But NYCFC returned the favor in second half stoppage time, with a 3-1 win all but wrapped up, when the NYCFC broadcast said Alexander Callens and Valentin Castellanos got into a shoving match and argument, purportedly over a free kick the duo was involved in.

Hard to say if something was in the air at Yankee Stadium, but the players on both sides were certainly fired up in this game.
