Less than a year after departing to test European waters, goalkeeper Bill Hamid is back at D.C. United.

Hamid returns on a year-and-a-half loan from Danish side FC Midtjylland, pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC), the club announced Wednesday. The goalkeeper rejoins the Black-and-Red after departing for Denmark at the conclusion of the 2017 season, but returns having made only three appearances for the Midtjylland first team.

ā€œBill moved to FC Midtjylland at the end of last year and it was an important step in his personal and professional development," D.C. GM Dave Kasper said in a statement. "Heā€™s a major part of the fabric of this club with his local ties, Homegrown history and on-field accomplishments so bringing him back on loan is a great acquisition as we make a push for playoffs at Audi Field."

Denmark native David Ousted has started 16 of 19 games this season for D.C., with Steve Clark handling the other three.

Hamid signed as Unitedā€™s first Homegrown Player in September of 2009 after joining the academy in 2007, and made his full debut the following season. He went on to set club records in starts (184), minutes (16,269), wins (66), saves (642) and shutouts (49). In 2014, Hamid was nominated as an MLS All-Star, selected to the MLS Best XI and was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

The native of Annandale in suburban Virginia has also earned six caps for the US national team, including three shutouts.
