Real Salt Lake 1, San Jose Earthquakes 1 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

Second-half goals for each team produced a 1-1 draw between Real Salt Lake and the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

Damir Kreilach scored in the 54th minute off Albert Rusnak's corner kick, the ball going to Corey Baird first for a flick before Kreilach found the net for his third goal of the season.

Danny Hoesen put in the rebound of Vako's shot in the 64th minute to salvage an important point for the visitors. Hoesen has 10 goals.

Real Salt Lake had a chance to win on the final play, but a header hit the bar on a bounce. They saw a six-match home win streak end, while San Jose are winless in seven straight games including three draws.

Midfielder Kyle Beckerman started his 300th career MLS match, the only field player in league history to reach that milestone with a single club.

Defender Justen Glad left the game in the first half after an early collision with San Jose's Florian Jungwirth.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: The Earthquakes have to be quite satisfied with a draw and until the closing seconds of the match, when Marcelo Silva was inches from ripping away two points, was the better team after tying the score at 1. That will help morale going into the California Clasico next week. On the other side, RSL could have put the game away much earlier but failed to capitalize on many chances. This one will sting Real Salt Lake for a bit, though they do get two of the next three matches at home, where they continue to be almost invincible.

  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Silva's header was that moment, and came at the death.

  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Rusnak almost had two assists when his corner fell to Silva at the end, and Hoesen was electric as the Quakes found their stride late. But Andrew Tarbell's seven saves kept San Jose alive for points, so the honor is his.
