Minnesota United's Ethan Finlay likely out for rest of year after ACL tear

During Minnesota United FC’s 3-1 loss to Seattle on Sunday, the Loons suffered an even bigger loss.

On Tuesday, the club announced that Ethan Finlay tore his right ACL during the match and will undergo surgery in the coming days to repair it. He is expected to miss the remainder of the 2018 season — a crushing blow for a team that already lost Kevin Molino for the year with the same injury and has yet to play a game this season with Sam Cronin (cervicogenic dysfunction).

Finlay, who was subbed out of Sunday’s game at halftime, had two goals and an assist through seven games this season. The 27-year-old midfielder was traded to Minnesota during their expansion season last year after spending five-and-a-half seasons in Columbus, including an All-Star and Best XI campaign in 2015.

Miguel Ibarra should feature more prominently for the Loons with Finlay out while recent signings Frantz Pangop and Alexi Gomez could get the first opportunity under Heath.

Currently in 10th place in the West, Minnesota will try to regroup Saturday when they host Houston (8 pm ET | TV & streaming info).

MLS Fantasy Impact: Artur ($7.5) and Jacori Hayes ($7.3) could be options with Finlay out. Start playing!
