After months of rumors and reports linking the two parties, the New York Red Bulls announced Friday they had finally signed Argentine winger Alejandro Romero "Kaku" Gamarra from Argentine side Huracan.

Pending receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC, Gamarra will be the first Young Designated Player signing in Red Bulls history.

Gamarra, who turned turned 23 in January, has been a regular for El Globo over the past three years after breaking through with the club originally during the 2013-14 season. He also has 23 total appearances in continental competition, playing a major part in his side's 2015 and 2016 Copa Libertadores campaigns.

Reports connecting Kaku to the Red Bulls first surfaced in December.

"When we identified Kaku, he quickly became our top off-season target," Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement. "He fits the profile of the player we are looking for: highly skilled, creative, and hard-working. During our discussions, we realized that we are adding a good player and great young man to our team. We look forward to seeing him continue to grow as part of the New York Red Bulls.”

Internationally, Gamarra has represented Argentina at youth levels through Under-20. He appeared in three matches during the 2015 U-20 World Cup, starting one.

Gamarra is New York's second major midfield addition of the month, coming two weeks after the signing of 18-year-old Cristian Casseres Jr. to the roster. They'll be part of the group asked to pick up the slack in the wake of Sacha Kljestan, who departed in a high-profile trade with Orlando City SC just after New Years.
