Allen Chapman takes the whistle as PRO announces MLS Cup officiating crew

Allen Chapman -- Nick Rimando -- Pleads his case

After winning MLS Referee of the Year in early November, Allen Chapman has been rewarded for his campaign with the lead referee assignment at the 2017 MLS Cup. Dave Gantar will be the MLS Cup's first ever virtual assistant referee.

Chapman and Gantar headline a six-man crew that will officiate Saturday's final, a rematch of the 2016 MLS Cup between hosts Toronto FC and the visiting Seattle Sounders. That crew includes Adam Wienckowski and Jeremy Hanson as assistant referees, Kevin Stott as the fourth official and Jason White as the fifth official.

Chapman will be refereeing MLS Cup for the first time. He served as fourth official at last year's MLS Cup, and was in charge of this summer's MLS All-Star Game featuring Real Madrid.

Chapman has refereed 108 MLS games over his career, and will be taking his 23rd assignment of 2017. He becomes the 16th MLS Cup referee in the competition's history over 22 MLS Cup matches.
