NEW YORK (Thursday, August 3, 2017) – Toronto FC forward Sebastian Giovinco was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 21st week of the 2017 MLS season.

Giovinco scored two goals and added one assist to lead Toronto to an impressive 4-0 victory over New York City FC on Sunday at BMO Field. The 30-year-old ranks in the top five league wide with his 11 goals and has also contributed five assists this season for a Toronto FC team that currently sits in first place in both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings (43 points, 12-3-7 record) following its active four-game undefeated streak.

The Italian National Team member put Toronto on the board in the 32nd minute with a beautiful left-footed shot from long distance to give his team a 1-0 advantage (Watch Goal). The goal gave Giovinco his third straight double digit scoring season, as the skilled forward extended his record as Toronto FC’s all-time leading scorer.

Giovinco continued to dazzle with a stunning free kick into the top left corner of the goal in the 67th minute to give Toronto a 2-0 lead (Watch Goal). The goal was Giovinco’s 50th of his MLS career, fourth multi-goal match of the season and 13th  multi-goal performance of his MLS regular season career. Giovinco capped his tremendous day with an assist on Raheem Edwards’ 82nd minute goal, providing a perfectly placed pass into the box to set up Toronto’s fourth goal (Watch Assist).

Toronto FC returns to action on Saturday, August 5 when facing D.C. United at RFK Stadium (7 p.m. ET, TSN).
