Toronto FC 2, New England Revolution 0 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

Toronto FC had a tight turnaround between games, having played just 48 hours before in the Canadian Championship, but the hosts found a way to overcome any fatigue, scoring early and late to put away visiting New England Revolution, 2-0, Friday at BMO Field.

Drew Moor drove to the back post to tap-in the first goal for TFC in the 11th minute and Sebastian Giovinco sealed matters with his goal deep into stoppage time to keep Toronto unbeaten at home (7-0-2) and tops in the Supporters' Shield standings.

NO TIME TO REST: With captain Michael Bradley suspended for the game due to yellow card accumulation, Toronto coach Greg Vanney decided to play both Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco, despite the fact that both played in the first leg of the Canadian Championship final Wednesday against Montreal and Altidore had gone 90 minutes. The team needed them and both stepped up, each going 90 minutes. Giovinco put the game away with his stoppage time goal. What do you say, lads? Ready for 90 more on Tuesday, in the second leg of that Canadian Championship final? 

HE HAD A HUNCH, WE GUESS: While he would get a goal later, in the final minute of stoppage time, Giovinco was denied in the 57th minute when New England's Lee Nguyen made a brilliant decision and ended up heading Giovinco's free kick off the goal line. Nguyen hid behind the Revolution wall when Giovinco lined up for the kick, just outside the top right side of the box. Suddenly, Nguyen raced back to the goal line, getting to the right post just in time to be in perfect position to head the ball away when Giovinco surgically placed the ball over the wall and toward the corner. 

BAD BACK:
 New England had already subbed off one defender when two players – midfielder
Gershon Koffie
and defender
Antonio Delamea
–bashed their heads together in the 75th minute. Both players went down, and Delamea eventually had to be subbed off. Defender
London Woodberry
had already been subbed off for tactical reasons, so New England had to use their final substitution of the game to bring on attacker
Teal Bunbury
to replace Delamea. It nearly worked, when Bunbury's 88th minute header forced a tremendous save from TFC goalkeeper
