American Exports: Tough day for Jermaine Jones and Schalke in Champions League loss to Chelsea

Jermaine Jones in action for Schalke against Chelsea

AMSTERDAM – It was a tough Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League for Jermaine Jones and Schalke, who fell 3-0 away to Group E leaders Chelsea.

The US midfielder led all players in distance covered, sticking his nose into all sorts of bang-ups. Though not culpable on any of Chelsea's goals, Jones was whistled for six fouls and a second-half yellow card.

With the loss, second-place Schalke missed a chance to clinch their place in the knockouts. The Miners do have two more opportunities to clinch, however, and will travel to Romania to face Steaua Bucharest on Nov. 26 before wrapping up the group stage by hosting Basel, who they lead by one point, on Dec. 11.
