Former Colorado Rapids manager Gary Smith offers predictions for 2013 MLS playoff races | SIDELINE

Gary Smith: Stevenage will go to White Hart Lane with belief

It's the million-dollar question in MLS given the jumbled state of the standings: Who will make the playoffs?

Former Colorado Rapids manager Gary Smith, who knows a thing or two about the postseason having won an MLS Cup with the Rapids in 2010, feels he has a sense how the conference races will net out.

Earlier this month, he gave his predictions for ProstAmerika.com and he has the New York Red Bulls finishing tops in the East in front of Montreal, Sporting Kansas City, Houston and Chicago. Read the rationale for his picks here.

In the West, Smith picked his former Rocky Mountain Cup rivals Real Salt Lake to take the No. 1 seed. Behind them will come the LA Galaxy, Seattle, Portland and Colorado. Check out what he thinks about the direction of his former club here.

Smith may want to have another crack at those West predictions given the Sounders' recent run of form, but generally he's not that far off (see updated standings here).

What do you think of Smith's playoff forecast? Can RSL make a run to regain the West lead? Have your say in the comments below.
