American Exports: Chandler back in form, but Nurnberg fall

Timothy Chandler, FC Nurnburg

AMSTERDAM – A trio of Americans took to the Friday night lights in Germany, with Timothy Chandler and FC Nürnberg coming up short in a 2-1 defeat at Mainz 05.

The US international continued his form revival at right back, even as Der Club dropped their fourth straight on the road. Chandler zoomed into attack to set up a golden equalizing chance near the hour mark, only to have teammate Mike Frantz nod against the woodwork.

One flight down in the 2.Bundesliga, Andrew Wooten provided the lone goal bright spot for Sandhausen in a humbling 6-1 home loss to John Anthony Brooks and Hertha Berlin. After coming on in the 62nd minute, Wooten pulled the visitors cut the lead to two with a quarter-hour to play. The American muscled past his marker and snuck behind Brooks to net his first goal for the club from close range.

Brooks & Co. pulled to within five points of the top and remained unbeaten in 11 in the process, while Sandhausen fell into the basement thanks to their fourth consecutive defeat.
