Lean start to international break for MLS representatives

Outside the US win over Antigua & Barbuda and Canada's defeat of Cuba, it was a lean start to the international break for MLS players representing their national teams.

Though MLSers did make some valuable contributions, only the Philadelphia Union's Keon Daniel found the back of the net, hitting an insurance goal in Trinidad & Tobago's 4-1 win over French Guyana in the Caribbean Cup qualifying tournament.

One other Union player did put in a solid shift, though as Carlos Valdés (above, center) started and went the full game in defense as Colombia topped Paraguay behind a brace from the red-hot Radamel Falcao to move within one point of Argentina at the top of the South American qualifying table.

Even though 18 MLS  players saw the field in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying action for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica and Panama, none of them found the back of the net and only Álvaro Saborío's Ticos came away with a result, taking a big step towards the final round of qualifying.

Over in Europe, Sweden was the only team to post a win, and even then they barely edged out minnows Faroe Islands, posting a 2-1 result on the road with the LA Galaxy's Christian Wilhelmsson going 62 minutes. Seattle's Adam Johansson did not feature.
