American Exports: Heartbreak for O'Brien in Danish cup

Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE celebrate

AMSTERDAM — Conor O'Brien and SønderjyskE fell just short of reaching Denmark's Ekstra Bladet Cup final despite a 4-3 second-leg win over visiting giants FC Copenhagen on Wednesday.

With the American midfielder going the distance, the underdogs were six minutes away from the big upset before Cesar Santin won and buried the fatal penalty. His strike leveled the aggregate at 4-4, with his away goal the deciding factor.

Despite the disappointment, SønderjyskE remain the hottest club in Denmark at the moment. They've won three consecutive home games and six of eight overall.
