Pizza Hut Park is no more – at least in name.
FC Dallas confirmed on Wednesday that their home in Frisco, Texas, will no longer carry the only naming rights it has held since its official opening in August of 2005.
With the locally based fast-food conglomerate withdrawing, the club is seeking a new sponsor to carry the stadium name – as well as the 17 adjacent fields on the suburban complex. In the interim, it will officially be known as FC Dallas Stadium following the NCAA Division I football championship game between Sam Houston State and North Dakota State on Jan. 7.
“Pizza Hut, as the company has recently shown with some of its other venue agreements, has shifted its sports marketing philosophy and will no longer be our naming rights partner,” FC Dallas said in a statement. “We are actively searching for a new naming rights partner for the stadium and are in discussions with several interested companies.”
The six-year-old stadium has served as FC Dallas’ home since they relocated from the Cotton Bowl in central Dallas. The 20,500-capacity venue served as host for MLS Cup 2005 and 2006.
