Cardozo strike seals 1-0 win for Monterrey

Duilio Davino, FC Dallas (2008): An outstanding center back, he was an integral part of El Tri for many years.

CF Monterrey advanced to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League with a 1-0 win over Toluca on Wednesday night. The Rayados advanced with a 2-0 aggregate victory.

The Mexican champs got a goal from Argentine attacking midfielder Neri Cardozo in the 87th minute for the win. They were without talismanic Chilean striker Humberto Suazo, who missed the match with a shoulder injury.

Former FC Dallas defender Duilio Davino was an unused sub for Monterrey, who will play Cruz Azul – 5-1 aggregate winners over Santos Laguna in their quarterfinal match-up – in the semis.

On the other side of the bracket, Real Salt Lake will play the winner of Costa Rica's Saprissa and Honduras's CD Olimpia. Saprissa take a 1-0 lead into the second leg, which will be played Thursday night in Tegucigalpa at Olimpia's Estadio Tiburcio Carías Andino.
