Diskerud can't wait to put on "beautiful US jersey"

Oslo-born US international Mikkel Diskerud has four goals and five assists for Stabæk this season.

AMSTERDAM — Though a call up to the US national team was expected, Stabæk playmaker Mikkel Diskerud was still overjoyed and taken aback by Thursday's news that he was headed to South Africa for next Wednesday's friendly.

The Oslo native, who has one goal in three appearances with the US U-20s, will meet up with the most of the 18 players selected by boss Bob Bradley in Cape Town on Saturday.

"I am just so happy and thrilled that I can't make any sense right now," Diskerud told MLSsoccer.com. "My thoughts are just drawn towards getting into that beautiful US jersey."

The 20-year-old is coming off a breakout season that saw him notch six goals and seven assists in 35 games across all competitions.

A lively attacking midfielder best known as "Mix" in Norway, Diskerud has started for Stabæk in 49 of his 51 league appearances over the last two Tippeligaen seasons.
