Since Thierry Henry’s much anticipated and historic arrival to New York, rumors have floated around that a third Designated Player was on the way. That rumor is now fact.
The Red Bulls have announced that they will unveil their third Designated Player on Monday, August 2, then present their player at a press conference to be held at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on Tuesday, August 3.
Although certain names have recently been linked to the move, none have been confirmed.
This new player will join new signee Henry and fellow striker Juan Pablo Angel as one of the team’s designated players.
Last week, New York head coach Hans Backe said the player they were pursuing already had a contract offer from the Red Bulls and all that was needed was for the player to sign.
The coach also said then that the player would line up at the bottom of a diamond midfield.
