Chivas USA shirts a blank slate

Those who have followed coverage of Chivas USA's preseason will have noticed the club is using new jerseys featuring some slight tweaks.

Comex, a leading manufacturer and distributor of paint and other industrial coatings in North America, no longer appears on the front of El Rebaño’s jerseys following the conclusion of a three-year relationship. Comex and Chivas USA first unveiled their partnership in May of 2007.

In addition to the sponsor element, this year’s Chivas USA Adidas jersey also features a new design.

Chivas USA, who played their first two MLS seasons without a jersey sponsor, have already used the sponsor-free official team jerseys on five occasions during the 2010 preseason. They last donned the new kit in a scoreless tie against the Fresno Fuego on March 6.

Fans purchasing a Chivas USA jersey today would receive a shirt that is clear of the Comex name across the front. This will continue to be the case until the club is ready to unveil a new jersey partnership.

When they secure a new sponsor, Chivas USA will be the first MLS club to have featured two different jersey sponsors in their history.

In other news on Thursday, parent club Chivas de Guadalajara announced they would revert to their original club logo after their fan base was critical of the touch-ups made to the traditional emblem during the 2009 season.

This news did not impact Chivas USA, who have maintained the same authentic Chivas logo throughout their five-year existence.
