RSL defender Kevin Novak undergoes surgery on right foot

SALT LAKE CITY - The Real Salt Lake training staff announced today that defender Kevin Novak, the team's starting right back for much of the 2006 season, underwent surgery this week on his right foot. According to RSL team doctor Andrew Cooper, doctors performed an incision to repair the non-union of an old fracture at the base of his fifth metatarsal bone, along with some tendon repair.

Novak played with pain in the foot throughout most of the 2006 campaign, but chose to postpone his surgery until after the season was over. The surgery was postponed even further due to Novak's ankle sprain on October 15th during RSL's season finale vs. Chivas USA. RSL doctors chose to allow the ankle sprain to heal before proceeding with the surgery. Novak is expected to rehabilitate throughout the off-season and fully recover in time for training camp.
