New York Red Bulls forward Mike Magee suspended and fined

NEW YORK - The Major League Soccer Disciplinary Committee today suspended New York Red Bulls forward Mike Magee one game and fined him $500 for violent conduct in the Red Bulls 1-0 win versus the Columbus Crew on Saturday, Sept. 16.


Magee was given a red card for violent conduct on the Crew's Kei Kamara in the 64th minute of the match. The red card carries an automatic one game suspension and $250 fine. After further review of the incident, the disciplinary committee handed out an additional one game suspension and $500 fine. Magee served the one-game red card suspension on Wednesday, Sept. 20 when the Red Bulls faced the New England Revolution. He will serve the additional game suspension versus D.C. United on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Under the terms of the CBA agreement, the Players Union may submit an appeal to the Commissioner for any discipline imposed as a result of an on-field incident resulting in a fine $750 or higher and/or a suspension of two games or more. Upon receipt of the appeal, the Commissioner will designate a time and a place for a hearing to be held as soon as practicable following receipt by the League of the Union's notice of appeal. A suspension shall not be postponed pending appeal.
