WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today it will play an international friendly against the Scottish Premier League champion Celtic FC. The contest will be played at RFK Stadium and is presented by WETA 90.9 FM. Game time is slated for 7:30 p.m. The game comes three days before D.C. United hosts the Columbus Crew on July 15.

"United remains steadfast in our commitment to seek meaningful competition with the best clubs from around the world," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "Celtic FC is a tremendous club with a rich history of success. We look forward to a great game July 12."

A team with a long-standing history, Celtic FC won the Scottish League for the 2005-06 season while amassing 91 points. Since the club's founding in 1888, Celtic has been a stronghold in the Scottish League as this win marks the 40th time that the club has been champion of the League. The current squad boasts high-profile players such as Irish midfielder Roy Keane, Scottish defender Stephen McManus, Japanese midfielder Shunsuke Nakamura and Polish forward Maciej Zurawski. Celtic FC signed Keane, a member of the Republic of Ireland's national team and a former Manchester United star, in December 2005.

Discounted Celtic FC ticket packages and group orders of twenty or more are now available for purchase through or by calling United at 202-587-5000. The Celtic FC four-pack (four tickets to see D.C. United play Celtic FC and four to see United play any other MLS regular season home game) is for sale at $152, $192, $256 and $320. Group tickets and additional seats for plan holders are available at $25, $30, $40 and $50. Individual game tickets, priced at $30, $40, $50 and $60, will be available via TicketMaster at a later date. The Celtic match will serve as Special Game A for all season ticket holders.

Last year, D.C. United hosted Chelsea FC at FedEx Field on July 28 in the "Clash of Champions," in a thrilling game. Defender Bobby Boswell put the Black-and-Red up 1-0 before United eventually fell by a 2-1 score in front of more than 31,000 fans. D.C. United has been impressive in international friendlies and holds a 14-5-3 all-time record in such games.
