CARSON , Calif. - Chivas USA returns to training Tuesday in preparation for the expansion side's showdown with the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, June 12, at 5:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. The Western Conference matchup, which will be broadcast live on FSN West (TV) and Radiovisa 830 AM (radio) marks the first home game for Chivas USA's new Head Coach, Hans Westerhof, who was officially named this past Friday. LAST TIME AROUND: The last meeting between Chivas USA and the Earthquakes took place on April 9 at San Jose's Spartan Stadium, in Week 2 of the 2005 MLS season. The entertaining, back-and-forth match ended in a 3-3 draw, with goals by Thiago Martins, Héctor Cuadros and a last-minute equalizer by Costa Rican international Douglas Sequeira. On March 4, Chivas USA faced San Jose in a preseason scrimmage at The Home Depot Center, a match which ended in 3-0 win for the Quakes.


CHIVAS USA VS. SAN DIEGO GAUCHOS: Chivas USA will play an exhibition match in San Diego, California against the Gauchos this Wednesday, June 8, at 7:30 p.m. PT at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California. A portion of the proceeds from the match will go to the Nicole Megaloudis Foundation, created in memory of the dauther of Thomas Rongens and Gail Megaloudis. The Foundation helps athletes that are financially in need and who are trying to attend and graduate college, while participating in athletics. SEQUEIRA STARTS IN SALT LAKE: Chivas USA defender-midfielder Douglas Sequeira started for the Costa Rican national team on Saturday in Salt Lake City, where the Ticos fell 3-0 to the U.S. national team in a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier. In the first half, Sequeira beat U.S. goalkeeper Kasey Keller with a header, which was called back when Sequeira was judged to have been offside. Sequeira would exit the match in the dying seconds after receiving a 92nd-minute red card, making him ineligible for the Tricolores' game on Wednesday against Guatemala at San José's Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.


CHIVAS GUADALAJARA UPDATE: In a battle of the most popular clubs of Mexico and Argentina, Chivas Guadalajara defeated South American powerhouse Boca Juniors 4-0 on Thursday at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara. The return leg of the Copa Libertadores quarterfinal tie is scheduled for next week - Wednesday, June 15 - at Boca's 'La Bombonera' stadium in Buenos Aires. Chivas is looking to become the third-ever Mexican club to reach the semifinals of the prestigious South American club championship, after América in 2002 and 2000 and runners-up Cruz Azul in 2001.
