MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, AUGUST 6, 2005 - REAL SALT LAKE 2, CHIVAS USA 1

REAL SALT LAKE HEAD COACH JOHN ELLINGER

On the fracas in the first half:
"It changed the game for us after that we were a little bit disoriented and frustrated and we lost all the rhythm we had up to that point in time."

On the game:
"In the second half we had our focus back and played a lot better. We knew that in order to win the game and make a serious run at the playoffs we would have to score on the north goal which we haven't done all year."

REAL SALT LAKE MIDFIELDER ANDY WILLIAMS

On tonight's game:
"The loss that we took last time against Chivas motivated us today to get a win; also having everyone back (from injury and national team duty) helped out a lot as well."

On his performance:
"I would give myself a B+, I had too many shots that were off target I need to keep my chances on goal and give the team more opportunities to score."

REAL SALT LAKE FORWARD CLINT MATHIS

On the fight in the first half:
"You are going to have to talk to the referee because I don't know why I got thrown out, after I got fouled I got kicked in the back with the ball and all of a sudden it turned into a big pile."

On tonight's game:
"It is huge, going into the break getting a win against the best team in the league (3-0 vs. FC Dallas on July 23) and then to come out today and beat a team that is below us in the standings. That is the object of the game - to win games and make the playoffs."

CHIVAS USA HEAD COACH HANS WESTERHOF

On losing the lead and playing in Salt Lake City:
"It's different to play here, of course, but I think after the 1-0 score at halftime nothing happened and then there were two gifts, the first one I think were ours and the second was the referee. And it's hot."

"I think that there were no big differences between the two teams, competitively. Before this game, they won four, we won three; they only won two at home, we too; and they score on corners and free kicks, we too. There are a lot of things in common. Like I said before, in the second half there were two gifts. Normally I don't like to talk about the referee but a whistle inside the area is a penalty. I couldn't understand why in the first half it was not a penalty but on the other end it was a penalty. I can't understand that."

CHIVAS USA FORWARD ARTURO TORRES

On the game:
"The final score was not just. The PK allowed was wrongfully called. It seemed like we lost interest after that bad call."

On what Chivas could have done to win:
"Seems like we always find a way to lose a lead, either us losing our concentration or the refereeing. We need to stay focused."

On the first half melee:
"A hard foul started it all and someone reacted to it; it's part of sports. All sorts of things happen in the heat of the moment."
