Quakes kick off season with community events

Rookie midfielder Chris Wondolowski is mobbed by young autograph seekers.

While remaining busy on the field preparing for their season-opening game against the New England Revolution, the Earthquakes were equally busy in the community, making numerous appearances throughout the Bay Area.

Rookie midfielder Chris Wondolowski, originally from near-by Danville, Calif. visited the students at San Jose's Lowell Elementary School on March 30. Wondolowski spoke with the children about soccer, performed a small skills demonstration, answered their questions and then signed autographs for the happy kids.

Also on Wednesday, the Earthquakes had a huge presence at the Britannia Arms in downtown San Jose, as five players helped out as celebrity bartenders to benefit Bay Area SCORES. Eddie Robinson, Kevin Goldthwaite, Danny O'Rourke, Robby Fulton, Ricardo Clark and Roger Levesque all took turns behind the bar as patrons watched the United States down Guatemala in a World Cup Qualifier while contributing to the Bay Area SCORES charity.
