MetroStars president and general manager Alexi Lalas to play in international charity all-star game

SECAUCUS, N.J. - MetroStars President and General Manager Alexi Lalas will play in an international charity All-Star game hosted by Real Madrid's Luís Figo. The game will benefit the Luís Figo Foundation and the International Ronald McDonald Foundation.

"It's an honor to be playing alongside these great players, and all for a worthy cause," said Lalas. "Of course if any of the other players want to discuss a possible move to the MetroStars, I think I can make some time."

The match will take place on July 2, 2005 at 8:45 p.m. ET, at Algarve Stadium in Portugal. The funds raised will help the foundations support community projects and monitor the progress of underprivileged children and those at risk of social exclusion in Portugal. The foundations provided support to over 200,000 children in 412 Portuguese Schools in 2004.

The Luís Figo Foundation, based in Lisbon, Portugal was created by public deed on March 13 2003. It is a financially independent not-for-profit institution, based on the personality of Luís Figo.

The best and most notable players from around the world are playing in this game. Some of the players in addition to Luis Figo are Roberto Carlos, César, Jermaine Defoe, Emerson, Alexi Lalas, and Ronaldo.

Other players that are invited but not able to attend are D.C. United's Freddy Adu, L.A. Galaxy's Landon Donovan and Manchester United's Tim Howard, formerly of the MetroStars.
