MetroStars announce unprotected list for upcoming Expansion Draft

SECAUCUS, N.J. - The MetroStars announced their unprotected list of players for the upcoming MLS expansion draft. The second expansion draft in MLS history will be held this Friday, November 19 at 4:00 p.m. ET and will be televised live on ESPNews. The two new teams, Club Deportivo Chivas USA (Los Angeles, CA) and Real Salt Lake (Salt Lake City, UT) will have the following unprotected MetroStars available for selection in the draft: M Pablo Brenes, F Sergio Galvan Rey, D Tim Regan, M Joselito Vaca, GK Jonny Walker, GK Zach Wells, and D Craig Ziadie.

The 2004 MLS Expansion Draft will consist of 10 rounds, with CD Chivas USA picking first followed in each round by Real Salt Lake.

All current MLS teams were able to protect 12 players on their senior roster from being drafted in addition to the team's developmental players, which are automatically protected. Within the 12 protected senior players, teams must protect all but one of their senior international players. Once a player is selected in the draft, the team from which he departs can then take a player from their unprotected list, and claim him as protected. After three players are taken from one team, no other players can be drafted from that team's pool of unprotected players.
