In their fifth and final exhibition in Spain, FC Dallas tied 1-1 to finish 2-1-2 on the trip. Both teams put their best lineups forward as they are getting ready for their opening days on Apr. 2 for FC Dallas and on Apr. 9 for Aalesund.
The first goal of the match came when Richard Mulrooney found an open Ronnie O'Brien eight yards outside of the box in the 58th minute. O'Brien made a nice move to lose his defender and then struck the ball to the left side of the goal and past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. It was O'Brien's second goal in three games in La Manga. Along with playing left outside forward, O'Brien also played up top when Ramon Nu&ntiled;ez entered the match for Bobby Rhine in the 73rd minute.
In the 67th minute, FC Dallas looked to extend their lead when Mulrooney centered a great ball to Bobby Rhine who's header sailed wide left. In the 84th minute of the match, Aalesund came storming back with two great chances to try and tie the score. An unmarked player in front of the net blasted a shot that Scott Garlick made a save on. However, the rebound came back out to another Aalesund player who rocketed another shot that Garlick punched over the goal to preserve the lead.
In the 84th minute, Aalesund broke through to tie the match on a questionable call to Philip Salyer. Salyer was called for a foul in the box though it appeared Olsen for Aalesund was already falling before Salyer touched him. The referees still awarded the penalty kick to Olsen who struck a nice shot to the lower left part of the goal to tie the match at 1-1.
In extra time, Carey Talley scored what looked to be the game-winner after the ball was bobbled by the goalkeeper on a long shot in. However, the referee called Talley for brushing up against the keeper and the goal was disallowed.
FC Dallas goal scorer Ronnie O'Brien on how the team performed tonight and overall in Spain:
"I thought we performed well tonight and all throughout the trip. It's disappointing to give up a goal so late, but there are more positives in this trip then anything. We are trying a new system and it's working. We ran into a little problem where we did not finish teams off, but that is the only negative that I can see from what we did here. We're ready to get back to Dallas and get going on the MLS season."
