Chivas USA deal Dunseth to Galaxy

For the second time this offseason, defender Brian Dunseth has been traded, this time going from Chivas USA to the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for a natural third round pick in the 2007 supplemental draft.

"We are pleased to be able to acquire Brian Dunseth, an experienced MLS defender who will be able to provide cover for us at a number of different positions in our backline," said Galaxy president and general manager Doug Hamilton.

For the Galaxy, Dunseth adds much need depth. Of its starting defensive unit of Tyrone Marshall, Ugo Ihemelu, Todd Dunivant and Chris Albright, the club is current missing the latter two, both of whom are out with injuries. Both Dunivant and Albright may also miss significant time this season to play for the United States at the FIFA World Cup in Germany. The remaining five defenders currently projected to be on the club's 2006 roster have a total of 15 career MLS appearances, and 14 of those belong to second-year player Troy Roberts.

The Southern California native and Cal State Fullerton alumnus has played for five MLS teams in his career, including New England (1997-2001), Miami (2001), Columbus (2002-2003) and Dallas (2003). He spent the 2004 season with Bodens BK of the Swedish Superettan (third division).

Dunseth joined Chivas USA on Nov. 17 in a trade for defender-midfielder Douglas Sequeira and midfielder Christian Jimenez. In 2005, he played for expansion side Real Salt Lake, scoring the game-winning goal in the club's first victory on April 16. Dunseth started all of the 24 games in which he played last season.

Dunseth has also played for the United States at many levels, including a stint as the captain of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team, which finished fourth in Sydney, Australia.
