Rafael Czichos

2024 (CHICAGO FIRE): So far this season, Czichos has appeared in three matches (three starts) on the backline for the Chicago Fire. He is only one of three players to play every minute of each match so far this season, alongside fellow defender Allan Arigoni and goalkeeper Chris Brady. 

2023 (CHICAGO FIRE): Served as the captain for Chicago Fire FC in his second season with the Club. As captain, Czichos appeared in a career high 31 matches (27 starts) in 2023. In those 31 appearances, Czichos recorded two goals with his first coming from a penalty in the 3-3 draw against FC Cincinnati on March 18, 2023.

Prior to his transfer to Köln, Czichos spent three seasons with Holstein Kiel (2015-18), where he made 104 appearances and served as team captain. Most notably, the defender made 37 appearances (37 starts) in the 2016-17 3. Liga season and captained Holstein Kiel to a second-place finish and promotion to the 2. Bundesliga for the first time since 1981. Born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Czichos moved to Germany at a young age and began his professional career with TSV Ottersberg in July 2008. Czichos has also featured for German clubs VFL Wolfsburg II (2010-2012) and Rot-Weiß Erfurt (2012-2015).
