HOW ACQUIRED: Traded from D.C. United in exchange for $150,000 in General Allocation Money on Dec. 13, 2020.

A versatile midfielder who can play both the box-to-box role and the flanks, Segura is a valuable and versatile piece for Austin FC going into their expansion season. The Costa Rican international made 66 regular-season appearances for D.C. United over three seasons.

INTERNATIONAL: Made his debut for the Costa Rican national team in a 3-0 win against Belize in the Copa Centroamericana on Jan. 15, 2017. Since his debut, Segura has made nine appearances for the Ticos, including two appearances in the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup.

OUTSIDE MLS: Played a majority of his professional career with Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica’s Primera Division. During his tenure at Saprissa, Segura scored 12 goals and recorded two assists in 118 appearances and contributed to the team winning the Primera Division de Costa Rica four times. The midfielder has experience in the Concacaf Champions League (CCL), after playing for Saprissa in the 2015-16 and 2016-17 campaigns.
